Importing 3D Models into KD Max
Tutorial Difficulty: Intermediate
KD Max supports 3DS and SKP models into the KD Max library. Cabinets by Computer can not guarentee that every model will work with KD Max or authenticity of the websites that offer downloads. In this tutorial I am using a 3D model from 3D Warehouse. If you are unsure please contact Cabinets by Computer before proceeding.
Step 1
To begin importing the model download and locate the 3DS or SKP file on your computer and open KD Max.
Step 2
Begin a new KD Max drawing to avoid over-writing any existing projects. It is best to import models into a newly created scene as we will be adding the object to the product library.
Step 3
Navigate to 3D mode in KD Max and then navigate to File > Import 3DS and SKP File to begin importing the 3D model.
Step 4
Click the button next to File and locate the downloaded model. Once you have selected the model select Clear Current Scene under Merge Options and uncheck Explode if required. Now click OK to import the model.
Step 5
Now navigate to Settings > Add Object To Library and click on the model. You’ll now be able to specify the basic properties of the model such as Name and Size. You can also upload an image of the model or create an image based on the current KD Max scene.
Step 6
Now navigate to Search Type and find the imported model. Simply layout the model into your drawing.
