The Good News on Keeping it Local

 In Case Studies

Since becoming a goCabinets manufacturing partner in 2015, Bevan Green, a Director of Tailored Flat Packs Direct Qld located in Brisbane’s Seventeen Mile Rocks, has seen a shift in the cabinet manufacturing industry.

Key issues surrounding quality control, industry standard compliance and longer delivery timeframes is seeing more cabinetry being manufactured locally. Local production gives kitchen designers, cabinetmakers and installers an improved level of control in servicing their customers.

“One of our major customers, who predominantly was importing flat-pack kitchens and cabinetry from China has since switched to using locally produced cabinets. One of the key benefits is the speed of turnaround times,” Green said.

“When you are importing products not matter which way you look at it there are processes that you just can’t control. There are the usual and inevitable delays you encounter with shipment schedules and waiting for customs inspectors to get to your freight,” he added.

“Communication is also a key factor and it is a huge benefit for our customers to get quick progress updates. When ordering locally they have better control of their order and we can keep then in the loop. These same communication lines are not always available when importing from overseas.”

This is good news for the Australian manufacturing industry, local employment and the state of the economy.

“In this business deadlines and job lead times are everything.  It is not acceptable to have loose delivery dates when there are tradesmen on job sites and installers waiting to install on prearranged dates.”

He believes goCabinets has been really a turning point in making his business a more efficient enterprise.

“As soon as we receive a customer’s order we can start filling the order straightaway. It saves so much time and we get better productivity out of both our staff and our CNC equipment. It’s a win-win.”
